Blagoy Kunchev and Spasimira Daskalova from the Impulse Dance Club received the award "Sportsman of the Year 2001" of the Municipality of Velingrad. The 10-year-old students from Hristo Botev Primary School are Balkan champions from Athens‘2001 in the competition until the age of 11. In addition, they have won a number of first places from national tournaments in Bulgaria, as well as two second places from the international tournament in Skopje. Second in the ranking for "Sportsman of the Year" was the swimmer from PK "Chepinets" Katya Sankeva (15), who collected a total of 79 points or six less than the top. She is a participant in the Balkan Games last year for juniors, as well as a winner of a silver medal in the 100 m. breaststroke and bronze at 50 and 200 m. from the women's state championship. Third is again a representative of the same club - Kiril Karadzhov (16), a national competitor, a participant in the Youth Olympic Games - Spain'2001, as well as a winner of many awards from the state championships of Bulgaria. The top ten of the athletes for the year 2001 of Velingrad is supplemented by the following names: 4 place - Polina Mihaylova (PC "Chepinets"), 5 place - Yordan Lebanov Ski Club ("Chepinets"), 6 place - Ivan Madolev (PC "Belmeken"), 7 place - Lachezar Terziev (SC "Dolphin"), 8 place - Georgi Mihov - Adriana Zhereva (CTI) The award ceremony was held on Friday (January 25) at the Escada Cafe Bar at a special ceremony organized by the head of the Sports and Tourism Department at the municipality Todor Bozev. The ten best of Velingrad were awarded a plaque and a diploma, and the winners received their award personally from the mayor of Velingrad, Dr. Tsvetan Dafov, who attended the entire ceremony, and at the very beginning welcomed all the nominees. At the celebration were coaches, competitors and sports figures. Most of the winners received their awards personally, only SC "Chepinets" and SCB "Rodopi" did not respect the ceremony. The formation of the ranking was done through an anonymous poll, which involved 14 journalists and coaches from Velingrad, each of them ranking the ten best in their own opinion athletes out of a total of twenty-seven nominees. The first place gave 10 points, the second - 9 and so on. N.A. to the tenth, which gave only 1 point. After the ceremony, the coach of the winners of Impulse Club Petar Milchev said: "This award is a great honor for us and I can say that it is the crown of the most successful year for Impulse since its existence until now. Thank you to everyone who appreciated our successes."
