Between August 27 and 29, a tennis tournament was held on the court at the school in the town of Kostandovo in memory of Yonko Ivanov.
A total of 14 people from Velingrad and Kostandovo took part, as Georgi Arabov and Alexander Gaydev met in the final. Arabov won 2-0, with 6-1 and 6-2 games in the separate sets. Thus, he also became the first winner of the amateur tournament in memory of Yonko Ivanov and was awarded a cup made by the Velingrad artist and sculptor Boris Kostov.
In the three days of competition, a double tournament was held in which Arabov-Karpachev won 2:1 sets against Gaydev-Kovachev.
The main organizer of the event, Alexander Gaydev, said that he wants the tournament to become traditional, praising the diligence of the young participants and reprimanding the slightly frivolous attitude with which the more experienced competitors have approached. Among the participants prevailed the opinion that it is good next year the tournament to be held in Velingrad, but the lack of a suitable red court is a serious setback before them.
The tournament was realized thanks to: mineral water "Bankya", "Sofia Beer" with representative Kostadin Velev, restaurant "Chinari", Dimitar Murtin, Ivan Deliev, supermarket "Fanny", ET "Margherita", "Alexandra Video", brothers Mitsikulevi and the family. Kovachevi. Special thanks were given to Lubo Gardanski for the maintenance of the court during the three days of competition.
