Once a year on Yundola, the Velingrad skiers recall the glorious times when legends were floating about our ski school, when the ski-sport progressed, when the Velingradians won medals and titles.
This year the day was January 29 and especially for the ski-veterans the snow of Yundola was wonderful, the sun was warmer than the previous cold days and nature had provided all the prerequisites for a nice winter holiday. And it happened, thanks to the traditionally good organization and the presence of more than 200 people. The celebration was opened by Mayor Stoyan Dulev and included 54 skiers - veterans and young ski hopefuls.
The starts were in both classic running and slalom disciplines. In the ski run, they measured strength 33 skiers, of which 10 were veterans. The chosen distance for all ages was 1 km.
In the lower age groups, the winner was Georgi Malinov from Biathlon SC, and in the girls Nelly Halacheva, also from Biathlon SC. In the juniors first crossed the final Vasil Ovcharov from Biathlon, and in the girls the only participant and winner was Elka Guleva from Atlas.
Veteran runners also competed in separate age groups. In women under 50, Gergana Gyahova was first, and over 50 years the title this year won Mariana Skenderova. Veteran Maria Stambolova made only an honorary tour.
For men up to 40 years with the best time was Iskren Plankov, up to 50 years the winner was Ilya Paparkov, and up to 60 years - Borislav Chorbov. In the category over 60 years there was only one contender - Nikola Gulev, who decently defended the sports class at his 73 years.
11 participants started on the ski-slalom track. Three forloiferes descended on her before them, from which Hristo Trichkov came down with the best time. In February, the promising skier will turn... Six years!
For men under 40, the best between the wickets was Atanas Paligorov. In the group up to 50 years slalom won Jordan Arshinkov once again. To 60 years the best time was scored by Boris Sazdov, and over 60 years Ivan Avramov. The competition was officially closed by the Head of Sports and Tourism in the municipality of Janet Bardarska. She delighted with awards all 54 participants in the winter holiday. They received sets of gloves, hats, backpacks.
With a special symbolic award for the contribution to the ski-sport in Velingrad was honored the long-time coach Georgi Stambolov. The winter holiday always boasts a cheerful finale, where around the tables in Ivan Lebanov's restaurant the veterans show that they have not forgotten how it is celebrated after a hard race. They were also helped by singers from the Chepino folk ensemble. And if the winter holiday began under the bright sun, it ended late in the evening. But this year also left good emotions and memories. Plus a little bitterness for the ski-sport in Velingrad, which definitely deserves not only a glorious past, but also the same future.
