The Yundola University of Forestry base from 5 to 8 October hosted an international scientific conference and brought together over 40 specialists from 12 countries for a discussion on the impact of forest systems on hydrology and soil erosion. The conference was opened by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Assoc. Stefan Yurukov. Among the participants were specialists from the National Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology, Sofia University "St. Cl. Ohridski", the head of RUG Mehmed Veliat, the heads of game stations and forest farms from the region.
Guests ranged from France in the west to Iran in the east and from the Netherlands in the north to Italy in the south. This great interest according to the conference host prof. Nino Ninov, Rector of UF, is due to the particularly topical topic in connection with the recent devastating floods around the world and the role of forests in retaining the water element. The international interest was also provoked by the opportunity for on-site specialists to get acquainted with the long-standing research work of the stationer in the Yundola region. It was created 40 years ago by the then rector of the Leso-Technical Institute Prof. Asen Biolchev and is one of the oldest in Europe. The uniqueness of the research is in their duration, this is exactly what impresses colleagues from abroad, said Prof. Nino Ninov. He was happy to announce that from now on Yundola's UF base will bear the name of Prof. Asen Biolchev.
Equally happy was the Rector of Sofia University Prof. Boyan Biolchev, son of prof. Asen Biolchev. He was a guest at the conference with his sister. "I am internally warmed by the attitude of colleagues towards my father, it shows love for the teacher. The most important thing is that our father's case is alive and continues to work for Bulgaria," said Prof. Boyan Biolchev.
The participants in the conference opened a plaque of prof. Asen Biolchev, and as part of their visit to Yundola will also remember the tasting of wines and specialties organized by the hosts.
