A day after the elections, Atanas Vodev's headquarters filed a complaint with the Municipal Election Commission that a candidate who does not have a current address registration in the municipality of Velingrad is allowed to participate in the elections and this makes the elections irregular. The candidate mayor, who had difficulties with voting on February 12, was Angel Toporchev. It turned out that his name did not appear on the electoral lists and this gave rise to another legal case. Mr. Toporchev, whose permanent residence is Plovdiv, stated that there was no violation of the law and that he had committed all legally required actions to confirm his address in Velingrad within the time limit. The same was the OIC's decision, after examining the evidence in the case.
Here's how Mr. Toporchev commented on v. "Tempo" finished the election, in which he appeared as the candidate-mayor of the Radical Democratic Party: "Velingrad was not sufficiently prepared for these elections. The campaign was democratic, but not fair. The election was not fair. The results are not in the interest of the citizens and the economic development and future of Velingrad. Once again, the big loser is the voter. Economic interests prevailed over public ones. Tools for manipulation of society such as electronic and print media were used to the maximum not in the interest of people's awareness. The preparation of the election campaign by the Municipal Administration was bad. The change of polling stations and the uninformed about these changes is one of the main reasons why people in this difficult winter have reduced their voter turnout.
I respect the vote of the voter as he is. I congratulate all those who had the courage and valor to express their vote. A vote of confidence has come, this should be respected. Let the non-voters not criticize either the results or the actions that will follow. The political parties hid behind one candidate, they did not have the courage to fight even for a place of losers. The other candidate's anti-campaign refused voters to vote. And as to the legality of elections, let the institutions that are mandated rule."
