The idea of creating a Balkan Coalition of Armons was born at the two-day symposium and festival held on Saturday and Sunday at the Panorama Hotel on Tsigov Chark. The organizer of the event, which gathered reinforcements from Rakitovo, Peshtera, Dupnitsa, Velingrad, Romania, Macedonia and Greece, was the Velingrad Society chaired by Vasil Yanakiev and with the active help of Paris Nikolov and Kostadin Nikolov. Besides meeting with relatives and friends, the forum also provided an opportunity for discussion on the problem of the preservation of the Armenian language and culture, popularization of customs among the younger, preservation of the Armenian authenticity. The September 11th Symposium marked a serious presence: Nicola Babovski from the Democratic Party of Armins in Macedonia; a representative of the Council on Ethnic Affairs of Romania and the Romanian Consul in Bulgaria; Dr. Mihail Ivanov - Secretary of the Council on Ethnic Affairs; Prof. Dr. Aurel Papari - Chairman of the Shaguna Foundation, which supports Armenian students; Dr. Svetla Rakshieva - ethnologist from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences; Dimitru Pichava - editor-in-chief and of the magazine "Armenian Life"; Mr. Fodula from the Association for Armenian Culture; Vangya Teriu from Macedonia, Velengrad ethnologist Georgi Kumanov, journalist Ilia Zoinsky and others.
The host was the Executive Director of the Center for Aromanian Language and Culture H. Kyurkchiev. At the opening, performances of the band "Kantiklu Nostru" ("Rod Song") were played by artistic director Nikola Yanev-Choli from Rakitovo. One of the most impressive statements of the symposium was presented by Mrs. Velichka Gusheva, whose words about the mystery of being a Armon shed tears many of the attendees. The guests visited Batak and Peshtera, where they were welcomed by the local Armenian Society. In the evening, a meeting of poets was held.
On Sunday started the festival of Armenian groups, including "Kantiklu nostru" from Rakitovo, "Steaua" from Peshtera, performers from Macedonia and Greece and ensemble "Fantona" ("Izvor") from Dorkovo. And this year the festival ended with an impressive performance of an Armenian anthem on stage by all participating singers, musicians and guests.
