Asen Blatechki: My passion is cinema

09.10.2004 18:26 •
During the week a strong cast presented in Velingrad the play of J. Radichkov "January". Among the artists was Asen Blatechki, whom we will soon see in a new Bulgarian series, made after the model of the American "Friends".
- "Sea Salt" is the title of the project in which you will participate with a leading role. What are your attitudes and expectations for this endeavor?
- With a very good attitude I am going to work on this Bulgarian series. I really wanted this to happen, I fought for six years for the part and I finally got it.
- In recent years, Bulgarian cinema seems to be entering its revival. Which is more challenging for you - to participate in Bulgarian productions or in foreign ones, filmed in Bulgaria?
- I prefer Bulgarian cinema, our films are more serious and the roles more quality and complex. I am glad that there is a revival in Bulgarian cinema. I am even glad that a forgotten festival - that of the Bulgarian actor, this year was held again in Karlovo. I can boast that I received an award for best actor there.
- And in this regard, do you think that there is an actor market in Bulgaria or not?
There's a market, but it's not good. Very few succeed, only a handful of people. The reason is that years ago there were 50 films made per year, and now their number is only 2-3. Even this year there will not be a single Bulgarian film, unfortunately.
- The mass viewer knows you better than the TV screen. Is this the mandatory stage that every young actor has to go through or is simply participating in TV productions a matter of choice?
- Television is a way for a person to become famous in a very short time. If there are no movies, you have no choice but to become known. In fact, even if an imbecile appeared on the screen, in just 1 month it would become popular.
- After all, how do you want to be known - as a TV, theater or movie star?
- My passion is cinema, but I would very much like the theater to remain as a hobby for me.
The return of the actors' titles was soon discussed in the public domain. Your opinion on this?
I don't know if they should be given titles, but I think they should be returned to the people they were taken from.
- And do you think that if the ranks are restored after all, they should have their financial equivalent as well?
- If it's about the actors of a state in theaters - yes, there should be an extra reward, because their salaries are miserable. I'm not a full-time actor, and that's my personal choice.
