Even the NS-BZNS distanced itself from the solo action of its mayoral candidate.
"With a mandate of 20 municipal councilors, Ekaterina Kaferinova has negotiated to give 100 000 leva to the party, which is behind me, to withdraw my candidacy for mayor from the elections. She has stated that the investigation wants 80,000 leva to file a lawsuit for me and to come up with a definition that I cannot participate in the elections."
This statement was made by Fidel Beev to journalists on 31 January in Pazardzhik. The only "proof" for the heavy accusation was Beev's words "I know everything!". Even during the press conference, it was rumored that there was a recording of the conversation in question. Mr. Beev did not want to say with whom the conversation was conducted. Most versions leaned towards National Association-BZNS leader Yane Yanev, who was in Velingrad last weekend and from whom Beev's candidacy would eventually depend.
The regional leader of BZNS-People's Union Ekaterina Kaferinova categorically denied the information and recalled that such insinuations are completely in the style of Beev and accompany every important event for him. The head of the Investigation Service - Pazardzhik Mr. Nedyalkov was also adamant that he did not know Kaferinova and it was never and in no way a question of asking for money to stop the participation of F. Beev in the election. According to him, Mr. Beev is obviously nervous from his frequent meetings with investigators, as cases are being brought against him. The scandal entered a new phase on February 4, Friday. In Pazardzhik, Fidel Beev distributed among the media a disc with a recording of a conversation between a woman he claimed to be Kaferinova and an unknown man. The disc was of unknown origin, was planted in front of Beev's home. The latter announced that he had sent the recording to the Prime Minister, the National Investigation Service and the Minister of Justice.
In turn, Ek. Cafferinova immediately approached the prosecution and will ask for expertise on the illegal recording. Ms. Kaferinova stressed that there is no possibility by law to withdraw registered mayoral candidates. This legal situation renders meaningless all the dirt circulated by F. Beev.
On Friday afternoon, the Conference of Presidents of the nominated Fidel Beev as a candidate-mayor National Association-BZNS issued a declaration, which surprisingly determined the thrown by F. Beev in the public domain history as a compromise and "untrustworthy and provocatively contrived".
