A delegation from Belorus led by Ambassador Alexander Petrov visited Velingrad on 29 October. Here were the chairwoman of the Belarusian Society of Writers Olga Ipatova, representatives of the We the Children Fund, school principals and the Stanchev family, who are the main "culprits" of Velingrad to be visited by more than 15,000 Belarusian children after the Chernobyl accident. The delegation was accepted by the mayor of the municipality Dr. Dafov and deputy mayors Ang. Toporchev and Sn. Veleva. Ambassador Petrov thanked for the conditions created in Velingrad for recreation and training of Belarusian children, pointing out that their health is one of the main problems of Belarus. He expressed interest in the possibilities of our region, praised the twinning between Velingrad and the Belarusian city of Malodechno, but noted that on a regional level the economic contacts between the two countries should be strengthened. In turn, Dr. Dafov thanked for the traditional invitations to the municipality for the holiday of Belorus and presented the vision for the development of Velingrad as a tourist, sports and balneology center. Next year, a delegation from Malodechno will be officially invited to the Celebrations of Culture in Velingrad. The municipality will also seek the capabilities of a Malodechno plant in connection with the project to cover the Cooperative Market. The mayor suggested to the ambassador that the municipality provide terrains for Belarusian reconstruction centers or to make a barter against covering the Market. The ambassador gave the mayor an anthology of Belarusian poetry with translation into Bulgarian and an album of photos. The municipality presented to the guests promotional materials about the city and the advertising film about Velingrad. Then there was a visit to the Center for Business and Information, and in the evening our poets A. Margova, G. Avramov, Yves. Koev and Ang. Goranov met with the guests and made a wonderful literary reading with children from Belorus. On 15 and 16 November, the Municipality of Velingrad will participate in the traditional meeting of twinned cities from Central and Eastern Europe, which is held in Belorus with the support of the UN.
