The brass orchestra opened the celebration of the Day of the Bulgarian Municipality October 12 with a performance of "End Bosphorus Noise Rises". The people who gathered in front of the municipal building in Velikograd wondered whether it was a joke or an accident the choice of the song, the lyrics of which continue with "Here, Simeon arrives...".
After the raising of the national flag in the great hall, a solemn session of the Municipal Council began. In honor of the holiday, 9 out of 29 municipal councilors attended the hall. Despite the invitations, none of the previous mayors and chairmen of the Municipal Council came. Of the honorary citizens of Velingrad only Mr. Stoyan Delibaltov honored the event. Units were also mayors and mayoral deputies from the villages in the municipality. The session was opened with a speech by the Chairman of the Municipal Council Nejat Kehayov, who spoke about the problems of local self-government. He described as injustice the dropping of a mayoral election in villages with fewer than 500 inhabitants and the way in which the powers of the mayors of settlements are being terminated. Municipalities cannot take advantage of their wealth such as water, forests and natural resources. At the same time, there is no correspondence between the huge responsibilities of municipalities and their financial provision and thus the role of municipal self-government is lowered, Mr. Kehayov stressed. In his speech, the mayor Dr. Tsvetan Dafov called October 12 a day for taking stock of the municipal councilors and employees. The mayor presented books to Mr. Kehayov and the chairmen of committees at the Municipal Council. On the festive day, I also hold a speech by Stoyan Tabakov - the student who won the elections for youth mayor in the municipality months ago. He thanked for the support to the youth and wished in Velingrad young people and managers to continue working side by side. Essays dedicated to Velingrad were read by students Anelia Shevrova, Dimitrina Stancheva and Stanimira Mihaleva from Secondary School "Vasil Levski" and Elena Borisova from Secondary School "St. St. Cyril and Methodius". They also received books presented by the youth mayor. The solemn session ended with a screening of a film about Velingrad made by the Reforms media house on behalf of the municipality. The film is advertising and presents the city mainly as a tourist center. The authors' finding that there are more restaurants in Velingrad than mineral springs stirred the hall. The celebration was closed with a cocktail in the lobby of the municipality. Tempo
