By July 8, the Pazardzhik District Court will rule on Fidel Beev's appeal against the decision of the Municipal Election Commission, which removed him from office.
The case began on 1 July, with OIC and Mr Beev's lawyers presenting their arguments to the panel. In the course of the case, no new facts were brought out beyond those already known. The OIC motivated their decision by saying that in his capacity as mayor Fidel Beev had violated Art. 41 of the LMSMA, as it is still the manager of the Beevi Brothers SD and carries out commercial activities within the meaning of the law. As evidence, invoices for commercial activity were filed between the municipal company Stroycom, SD Beevi Brothers and Beev and Beev Ltd. Lawyers of ousted Mayor At. Zhelezchev and D. Leviev, who also represented him during the legal dispute before his inauguration, argued that he had made representations to be deleted as manager of the Beevi Brothers SD as early as February 2004. Regarding the commercial activity with Stroycom, the lawyers pleaded that such existed even before Mr. Beev became mayor.
At the end of the meeting, the Prosecutor's Office expressed an opinion that Mr Beev's complaint against the OIC's decision, also confirmed by the Central Election Commission for the local elections, should not be upheld.
During the week in Velingrad and in the villages of the municipality started collecting a petition in defense of Fidel Beev, which with a special declaration was also supported by 11 mayors of town halls.
Before the decision of the magistrates was clear, Fidel Beev said: "I will appear in elections until politicians get fed up. If the court confirms the opinion of the OIC, I will most likely not appeal to YOU, but will appear in new elections." If you keep the style of local political realities and this, and any other scenarios and twists, are not excluded at all. But the rules of the game are still determined by the laws and institutions, so you must first wait for the decision of the first instance of the court, which in turn is subject to appeal. It is clear that the close prospect for Velingrad is either a long judicial procedure or a "choice to the hole".
