Right-wing coalition BNS launches tolerant campaign

29.03.2005 07:50 •
The new right-wing coalition Bulgarian People's Union (BNS) was presented on 24 March in Velingrad by the regional chairwoman of BZNS-People's Union Ekaterina Kaferinova, the municipal councilor from the Union of Free Democrats Ivan Slavchev and the municipal chairman of VMRO Ventsislav Elichin. The press conference was held at the SDS club next to the Corona restaurant, where the coalition's campaign headquarters will also be.
Coalition BNS was established on February 28 this year, after under the agreement of general participation in the parliamentary elections, the leaders of SDS Stefan Sofiyanski, BZNS-People's Union Anastasia Moser and VMRO Krasimir Karakachanov signed their signatures. Meetings were then held at the district level, and last week the municipal structure in Velingrad was also built. Members of the election headquarters were also elected, which included 4 representatives of each of the formations. The headquarters will be large because of the specifics of the municipality, and a chairperson has not yet been elected.
All our structures in Pazardzhik region accepted the coalition with enthusiasm and motivation for work, there are no party contradictions and sentiments, announced Ekaterina Kaferinova. The BNS coalition has already been joined by five agricultural formations united under the name "We, the Farmers". There are also talks with authoritative agricultural leaders such as Milena Stamboliyska, Milan Drenchev, Todor Kavaldzhiev, who will also help the BNS. The list of BNS candidates for the Pazardjik constituency was constructed as a party representation. The ranking takes into account the results of the parties from the last local elections in 2003. In our field, the Union of Free Democrats has achieved the most serious results, so its representative will lead the list here. As a leader, the SDS unanimously approved the Pazardzhik lawyer and municipal councilor Nikolay Bozhilov, Ivan Slavchev reported. The SDS appeared for the first time in parliamentary elections, it is not yet clear whether it will also elect a candidate from Velingrad.
The second place on the list will be for BZNS-NS. Farmers are currently holding municipal meetings, where they make nominations for parliamentary candidates. Of the 11 meetings held so far in 8 places, Ekaterina Kaferinova was nominated, who predicted that her main competitor for the second place in the list would be Emil Yonchev from Pazardzhik. The result will be clear on April 2, when a regional conference of BZNS-NS will be held. However, there is one feature: by statute, the decision of the conference on the arrangement of candidate-deputies is advisable, but not mandatory. The final tier will be made by the party's Board of Governors after August 15. Among the nominees for BZNS-NS candidate is the mayor of Krastava Mustafa Eyup.
VMRO - Velingrad will not broadcast its candidate-deputies, and third in the list will be the district chairman Blago Petrov, announced Ventsislav Elichin.
With a list of 18 parliamentary candidates, the BNS is firmly counting on winning one of nine mandates in the Pazardzhik constituency and about 28 nationwide. These are the votes of our hard electorate, but we set ourselves the task to earn more votes, said Mrs. Kaferinova. The BNS promised a tolerant election campaign, did not accept the maxim that in elections it could do anything and offered a race of personalities and ideas. Talks with the ODF continue - if not for common lists, then for a tolerant election fight and for common actions after the elections, because we are doomed to be together, BNS believes.
