Dorkovo keeps tradition and wins friends

The fine tales, as a rule, end like this: "Three days they ate, drank and were merry." This year's International Festival of Authentic Folklore "Dorkovo 2002" looked exactly like a nice fairy tale: three days of songs, dances, music; three days of people going to relax their souls, meet friends and have fun; three days of meetings of the surviving Bulgarian folklore with the folklore of the neighbors from Greece, Serbia and Turkey, with the verandahs of Hungary and for the first time - with the incredible fiesta of the performers from distant Mexico.

The festival opened on the evening of August 2, when so many people gathered in the center of Dorkovo that to throw a needle, there is nowhere to fall. The official guests of the opening were many, among them the mayors of Rakitovo Georgi Mihaylov and of Velingrad Dr. Tsvetan Dafov. The honor to start the three-day celebration by right fell to the Dorkovo mayor Ivanitsa Kotulov and Todor Matsanov, who participated in the Organizing Committee. The well-deserved thanks - to the foundations that helped financially to hold the festival: "Workshop for Civic Initiatives", "Carl Baudouin", "Open Society" under the "Live Heritage" Program and to sponsors such as beer "Kamenitza". At the head of the gorge of the participants were the Representative Brass Orchestra and the cheerleading squad of Velingrad. The first night the concert lasted until after midnight, in the square was a dance of 4 kata. The indisputable hit was guests from Mexico, whose performance led many to admit that Mexicans simply filled their hearts with the temperament and emotionality of dancing and music. On Saturday and Sunday, the festival continued, on stage came out nearly 50 ensembles from all over Bulgaria plus guests from Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Mexico, Serbia, Puerto Rico. Their performances evaluated a jury of the Institutes of Folklore and Ethnography. He was also appreciated by the applause of the audience, who were satisfied with more than 30 hours of music, songs and dances. There were also a few emotions offstage: swings, stalls, grills, a colorful multitude of young and old in a good mood. Bravo to the Dorkovs that along with the mirth they keep the tradition that they gave their hospitality to the authentic folklore, to the Bulgarianness and human connections with the Balkans and the world. Their words turned out to be true from the invitation to the festival - in Dorkovo you can look at yourself and enjoy yourself. Now it was like this, to be life and health - next year even more!
