Municipal Council - Velingrad proposes the Ministry of Education to convert the primary school in Draginovo into a secondary general education. The decision was taken at the suggestion of DPS adviser Sergey Kichikov and after a serious discussion first in the Committee on Education and then at the session. The position of the team of OU "Metodi Draginov" is that this is the largest primary school in the district, they have a base, financial and staff security, students will save time and financial resources, Roma will be better integrated, young people will protect themselves from aggression, drugs, alcohol. The Chairman of the Municipal Council M. Dzhambaz announced that this is a wish of 90% of those living in Draginovo and the right of parents to decide where to teach their children should not be restricted. Deputy Mayor of Education Georgi Yanchev announced that he had requested, but did not receive, a financial analysis of how the future SOU would be supported. He pointed out that 80% of the students from Draginovo come to study in Velingrad, but not in secondary schools, but in established and with traditions throughout Bulgaria vocational high schools, because they want exactly a profession. Ekaterina Kaferinova said that it is clear that there will be a political vote, but the draft decision must be worked out accurately. Such important decisions cannot not be agreed with the Mayor and the Education Directorate and can be adopted without estimates. The municipal council is obliged to think about all schools in Velingrad and to take into account that tomorrow other villages may ask for the same. Eng. Rositsa Ruskova, director of the Ivan Vazov Vocational School of Woodworking, reminded that they give the students a profession to make a living and that staff are needed for the production enterprises. Her statement that some mediocre students also come from Draginovo definitely affected the teachers from Draginovo. The councillors supported the proposal with 25 votes in favor, only the ZNS abstained. A long procedure follows: an opinion of the Regional Inspectorate, which, according to unofficial information, is not positive so far and ultimately a decision of the Minister of Education whether there will be a SOU in Draginovo.
