The Two Faces of the Jubilee: Traditions and New Hopes

14.05.2002 16:23 •
The last week of celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the school "V. Levski", naturally became their culmination. With the dramatization "Radini excitement" of the eternal Bulgarian novel "Under the yoke" the students of Mrs. Bigerano's 11th grade opened the evening dedicated to the teachers for whom the school "V. Levski” was and is life and destiny. Generations of teachers met in the Open Society Hall on May 9.
The long-time director of V. Levski" and honorary citizen of Velingrad Mrs. Spaska Peeva was adamant in her assessment: "School "V. Levski "has created the intelligentsia of this city and municipality and I will give you just one example - Aneta Uscheva is a PhD in biology in Germany and is now a professor at the University of Manhattan. Remember that from the past the ashes are thrown away and only the flame is taken. The jubilee proves that many flames were taken. I believe that all of you will make even wider the path of Vasil Levski School.
From the statement of Master N. Kolev young people in the hall learned that the first training robot in Bulgaria was the work of the student Georgi Sabchev and is now located in the museum in Gabrovo.

He also recalled that in the yard of the High School (now there is TIT "Al.Konstantinov"), there was a "sun clock" - a prototype of a clock in Vienna, and the "seismologists" of the school have discovered that in a full moon the earthquake epicenter in Velingrad is activated - a discovery confirmed by the Institute of Seismology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Many emotions caused the statement of Master P. Polezhanski, one of the first students (1937/38), and since 1950. already a teacher. Tears gushed in his eyes at the memory of his teachers: Elena Kantardzhieva - French language, Petko Zahov - history and geography, Sima Pramatarova - music and singing and the director Ivan Divisiev, "wrong with his knowledge the professor who tested him". And again tears: for the then mayors who voted money for those who want to study, but have no funds (then the fee was 500 leva, so they had the opportunity to finish sets 1922 and 1923). From it, students learned that "there were two diplomas - white, with which you can become only a clerk, because you did not hold a matriculation and a diploma with a matriculation, which gives you the right to continue studying." In his emotional statement, he mentioned the many concerns about the health of students and sports: "Our students were the best football players and volleyball players. I believe that the tradition of sports, tourism and hard mental work will continue!".
In his speech, the teacher Avram Gerev recalled how much he helped for the good work the methodical cabinet at the Education Department of the Municipality (he had over 2000 copies of auxiliary literature) and expressed his firm opinion that "his non-existence is not only for financial reasons, but above all of misunderstanding. Each subject-science department, because teaching was at the height of the vuz. Department of Foreign Languages - Madame Elena Kantardzhieva - teacher legend, Yordanka Shanova - as if head of the Department of History, of Chemistry Mrs. Vatzkova-Lambova, Physical Education - Lyuben Gugalov... The high school was a center because the teachers were in their place. There are successes only where there is an inner charge, because life is short and spirituality eternal, said Avram Gerev.
The teacher Nikola Boyadzhiev started straight with the words: "The sanctuary "Vasil Levski". I was 28 years old and fell into a collective of knowledgeable and capable teachers and two principals - big, irreplaceable professionals...".
The big day of the celebration was May 10. With a solemn ceremony and many guests in the schoolyard, the Bulgarian flag was raised and the flags of the school were welcomed (from the tension of one of its flag bearers fainted). The exhibition with old and new photos from the history of the school, as well as the published jubilee issue of the school newspaper, caused great interest. All of Velingrad felt the mood of the anniversary thanks to the festive procession to the center led by the brass orchestra.
With "Mila Rodino" started the gala evening in the crowded hall of the community center "Otets Paisiy". The historical review of the jubilee school, made by Headmaster Emil Mollov, was listened to with attention. Congratulations followed from the mayor of the municipality Dr. Dafov: "Today we celebrate a bright anniversary of a Bulgarian school. I call it bright because after family, school is the first place we touch the light of knowledge."
The municipality's birthday present for the school is a video camera. Exciting greeting address and stereo arrangement of the jubilees gave the principals of schools from the municipality. With the wish "more often to stir the tender strings of our soul" on behalf of Nabor 1937 anniversary prize donated the artist Boris Kostov, and his son Radoslav Kostov on behalf of Nabor 1973 gave an anniversary medal. A congratulatory address on behalf of the Board of Onch "Father Paisii" with the provision that he was also a student of the High School, read the honorary citizen Dimitar Mechev.
Many flowers, many wishes and applause were received by the students and teachers of Vasil Levski Secondary School for the festive mood they created with their magnificent performances. For the first time, the hymn of the school of text of the teacher-literator Ekaterina Mihaylova - head writer of the performance and of music of the teacher Violeta Kranteva, responsible for the musical layout, was also sounded.
The concert touched the hearts of the old and young alumni, teachers, friends gathered in the hall. It brought back the best memories and left hope that the tradition of the School continues.
