Fidel Beev is the new mayor of Velingrad

03.11.2003 17:46 •
For the first time in the years of democracy during the election night in Velingrad, no one celebrated. Each mayoral election has so far been marked by the loud joy of the winners, many coming before the municipality to share the success of their chosen one, the defeated congratulating the winners.
The night after the run-off on November 2nd, there was a clear winner - the winner with nearly 5,000 votes ahead of Fidel Beev. But instead of celebrating, Mr. Beev came home - not even the victory was able to erase the worries surrounding the kidnapping of his 20-year-old daughter Desislava, carried out last Tuesday evening in Sofia. On Sunday evening, the Chief Secretary of the Interior Boyko Borisov personally came to Fidel Beev's campaign headquarters, but the only information was that the kidnapping case was being actively worked on. At the run-off on Sunday, 21,379 residents of Velingrad and the municipality voted. Voter turnout was nearly 61% - higher than in the first round, when 17,991 voters stood at the polls. In section 9 in Velingrad came to vote the centenarian Manol Cholev, did not exercise his right to vote, however, the mayor Dr. Tsvetan Dafov. During the day there were no drastic violations in the electoral process. Two complaints were filed by the headquarters of the independent candidate Alexander Daskalov from the OIC and the CECMI - for unauthorized agitation in the village of Draginovo by the candidate of the Green Party on the day of the runoff and for his election advertisement on the day of reflection with materials about the kidnapping of Desislava Beeva in major national media.
Unlike the first round, on the second, the sectional election commissions dealt with counting much faster. The municipal election commission and municipal administration also worked without error and in sync, so the results quickly became clear. According to the results of the 24 sections in Velingrad, 7138 people voted for Alexander Daskalov and 4661 for Fidel Beev. However, the results of the mayoralties sharply tipped the scales in the opposite direction - from the area came 1099 ballots for Daskalov and 8481 for Beev. Thus, with a total of 13,142 votes, Fidel Beev categorically won the mayoral vote against Alexander Daskalov, who received a total of 8237 votes. As a percentage, the ratio is 61.5% to 38.5% in favor of Mr. Beev.
The newly elected mayor of Velingrad will have to walk only a few meters from his previous cabinet in the building of "Brothers Beevi" to the mayor's cabinet in the building of the Municipality of Velingrad. Passing these meters, Fidel Beev will need from businessman to become mayor - on this depends the development of Velingrad and the municipality in the 4 years of the next term.
