On October 30, the chairman of the Municipal Council - Rakitovo Vihra Uteva and the deputy mayor of Velingrad Angel Toporchev returned from a four-day visit to the province of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany with one of the last flights in the history of Balkan. At the invitation of the German-Bulgarian Society, a delegation from the Committee on Youth, Sports and Tourism to the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria visited, which also included the mayors of Kavarna and Sapareva Banya. The Bulgarian guests were accommodated in the 30,000-strong town of Wernigerode, which welcomes 2 million tourists a year thanks to attractions such as a medieval castle, a mine, a railway with a locomotive from 1931, a museum for protected plant species, etc. The city is located in the Harz Mountains, which is a national park. A listening station existed near the city, used by the Russians before the reunification of Germany, which is now also turned into a museum. The main meetings of the Bulgarian group were with the Association of Private Hoteliers, Restaurateurs and Entrepreneurs, in which a total of 260 structures were organized. They have become familiar with the information system, which gives tourists complete data about vacancies in hotels, telephones, tourist attractions, prices, etc. plus the possibility of direct bookings. The analysis of the potential of the material base and the tourist flow that the Germans have is also still only a dream for the Bulgarian conditions. Impressive were the guest houses without staff and the hospitality of the Germans in terms of tourists.
Contacts with the German-Bulgarian Society will continue at a meeting in early December with the participation of 28 municipalities. The host of this meeting will be Velingrad or Plovdiv.
