The head of the economic service at the German Embassy, Mr. Jens Krausmase, met on June 10 with the mayor of the municipality, Fidel Beev, his deputies M. Arsov and R. Hodzhov, the chairman of the Municipal Council Nejat Kehayov and local businessmen who maintain business ties with Germany. Together with Mr. Krausmase, the meeting was attended by Dr. Vasilev from the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, established in March this year, which is the successor to the one established in 1993. Club for Bulgarian-German cooperation in the field of economics. The representative of the German Embassy said that at the moment Bulgaria is on the right track, all chapters on the pre-accession process will be completed very soon and the reviews from Brussels are excellent. He also announced his personal opinion that he did not expect that we would be able to fit so quickly into the requirements for closing the chapter "Competition", but at the cost of tough negotiations and compromises this is happening. "I am convinced that on January 1, 2007 Bulgaria will be an equal member of the European Union," said Mr Jens Krausmase. He highlighted two important problems through German investors in Germany. First of all - insufficiently effective judiciary despite reforms in the judiciary. Secondly - the cooperation and support from the local authorities, where there is positive progress and the meeting in Velingrad proves it. Germany is taking clear steps to encourage its investors to work with Bulgaria: through the establishment of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, through a special federal agency and through its embassies around the world.
Nejat Kehayov presented as priorities of Velingrad energy, ecology and tourism and presented the project for a geothermal plant for which we are looking for investors.
A total of about 250 companies are members of the chamber, of which over 55 are mixed Bulgarian-German. Because of existing and future contacts, interest in the meeting was shown by Velingrad companies such as VSK Centaur, Megahit, the Regional Development Agency, Hmela, Rodopi-12. All companies that are interested can become members of the Bulgarian-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, it became clear at the meeting.
