On Thursday, July 22, the District Prosecutor's Office - Pazardzhik announced that it is launching pre-trial proceedings against the deposed mayor of the municipality of Velingrad, Fidel Beev. In front of the media, the new district prosecutor Ivan Daskalov announced that for one month the bodies of the Economic Police and the prosecution had checked hundreds of documents. Verification has shown that there is evidence of F. Beev crimes under Articles 220 and 283 of the Criminal Code (the articles in question refer to crimes of service and conclusion of disadvantageous deals). Therefore, the Prosecutor's Office imports the collected data for pre-trial proceedings by the investigative bodies. Their task is to seek further evidence of the established facts, and once they have ruled, it will be decided whether Mr. Fidel Beev will be charged.
The inspection of the District Prosecutor's Office was mainly on the complaint filed by the Municipal Electoral Commission - Velingrad. On June 18, the commission suspended Mr. Beev's powers as mayor of the municipality because of a violation of Art. 41 of the LMSMA, according to which as mayor he has no right to be a manager of the Beevi Brothers SD as well. The decision of the OIC also took into account the fact that during Mr. Beev's term as mayor, commercial transactions were carried out between the municipal company "Stroycom" and the SD "Brothers Beevi". The Pazardzhik District Court confirmed the decision of the Municipal Election Commission, taking into account in the case of the mayor a conflict of personal and public interests. This court decision is now being appealed by Mr. Beev to the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, commercial transactions between Stroycom and the Beevi Brothers SD will also be the subject of the pre-trial proceedings. Investigators are likely to look under a magnifying glass and other fuel purchases by the municipality.
