Like every classic, the Balkan Classical Guitar Festival and Competition attracted mostly avid fans of this kind of music art. For the fourth time Velingrad hosted the international forum and its co-organizer together with New Bulgarian University.
On June 2 in the evening in the great hall of the municipality Vrid Mayor Atanas Vodev officially opened the festival, and for the guests greeted with a song the performers of the music school "Zvanche". The opening was also played by the well-known small virtuoso of the classical guitar David Dyakov. In the hall were the leader of the ODF leaves Dr. Ivan Kolchakov, the regional leader of Gergyovden Luka Belyov and Dr. Tsvetan Dafov.
The festival and competition lasted until June 4 with a competition program, master classes, rehearsals of the festival orchestra, concerts. Guitarists from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Serbia, Macedonia, Spain, Germany participated, and the youngest among them was an 8-year-old musician from Malta.
The international jury announced the ranking from this year's competition in the evening on Sunday at the closing concert in the municipality. In the category up to 16 years first prize was won by Bozhana Pavlova, followed by Radoslav Mihailov and the third-placed Mile Georgievski and Kamen Pankov. In the category over 16 years the jury did not award first place, but gave two second - to Stanislav Todorov and Nikas Papadopolos and two thirds - to Mile Karovski and Boyan Donchev. The evaluation of Gerhard Reichenbach, a jury member and distinguished guitarist, for this year's edition of the competition and festival was that many talents have presented themselves, but all of them have more work to do. His personal favorite among the participants was the winner of the contest up to 16 years. Bojana Popova.
According to Eva Fampas, also a member of the jury and one of the biggest authorities in the field of classical guitar in neighboring Greece, this year the participants have shown many different styles, they have played more put works, but there has not been a prominent favorite. With the lack of bright talent that has risen this year, she explained the jury's decision not to award first prize in the category over 16.
Mrs. Fampas did not spare the truth that the festival does not have sufficient advertising both locally and internationally. The municipality and the companies should be more proactive, many people in Velingrad did not know about the event at all, she believes. Indeed, the festival deserved more audience, all the more so that there are few international events of this rank in Velingrad and that it is through them that our resort can develop, gain image and new contacts.
