The mayor has broken the law, to face the consequences

24.06.2004 09:00 •
On the position of the 11 signatories of the request to the OIC to terminate the powers of Mayor Fidel Beev, we spoke with Ms. Tanya Goncheva:
- How would you comment on Mr. F.'s accusations? Beev that each of you 11 have personal interests to ask for his removal from office?
- Mr. Beev's thesis that the 11 people who filed the signal to the OIC are all victims of his actions, aims almost to shift the blame on us. The main problem lies in the fact that he, remaining the manager of his trading companies, has violated the law and must suffer the consequences that result. The fact is that some of us have had previous encounters with him and have been motivated to do so, but if he were clean, nothing would have come of our actions. I want to share that we were joined by many other people who supported us, for which we thank them warmly.
Are there any political motives in your request?
- Regarding the version that the attack on the mayor is political - categorically not! Mr. Beev ran in the 2003 local elections. on behalf of the Green Party of Karakachanov. It is very brave and naive to think that this party is a real threat to the parties whose representatives are part of us. Our goal was not to discredit Mr. Beev partyly.
On the other hand, the logical question is why the BSP does not react to the mayor's wrongdoings? To be more precise, the local leaders of the "modern left" were terrified that we might succeed.
The answer to this question is clear: with or without a coalition agreement, they ruled together. BSP representatives in the local Municipal Council demonstrated self-confidence in winning the elections and as such were overwhelmed by wild revanchism. They changed the vote to voters. They could not have been in opposition for two terms in a row. That's why they had to be in power at all costs. I say at all costs because they also modified the left-wing, social idea by voting for an increase in sidewalk law fees, for issuing licenses for alcohol, cigarettes, and for retail hours. They supported the mayor, who wanted 130 staff of Stroycom to be dismissed. What I think, and many others share it, is that on local soil the BSP has fallen into a moral and spiritual vacuum.
But the joyful is something else. The actions of our non-partisan colored group indicate the presence of a civil society. It posed the questions of individual responsibility and the need for new mores. It made us feel part of something bigger than ourselves.
From the editorial office: We sought the position on the hot topic of two more of the main political forces. The President of BSP Toma Pachalov repeated what was written in the declaration of the left coalition: before the laws all citizens are equal, BSP will defend principled positions in the Municipal Council and political activity in the name of all citizens. DPS Chairman Nejat Kehayov said they would comment at a later stage.
