21 November 2002 - the day when Bulgaria received an invitation to NATO, in Velingrad was marked by an anti-NATO rally in the Fountains Square with the participation of thirty mostly elderly people.
The local structure of the BCP "G. Dimitrov" announced the rally in defense of Units 3 and 4 of NPP "Kozloduy". The presenter described the government's decision to close them as "sucky and dirty". The first secretary of the party Pepa Tashkova read an inspired speech in which she recalled that in the years of "hateful socialism" Bulgaria was flourishing, and for 12 years the rulers destroyed it to appeal to capitalism and NATO. She made the most severe accusation to the current prime minister: "The Coburggs are looting Bulgaria." The leader of the communists announced that NATO should have disbanded together with the Warsaw Pact and that Bulgaria should not participate in a war against "friendly Iraq". BCP "G. Dimitrov also declared against the destruction of the SS-23 missiles. At the conclusion of his speech, P. Tashkova said that the wheel of history is spinning and socialism will prevail.
Speech in front of the rally I also hold the Roma youth secretary of the BCP "G. Dimitrov". "Roses wither and the hour of truth comes," he said, cursing any traitor.
Before the closing of the event, a telegram was read to the National Assembly, the Prime Minister and the President. In it, the government was accused of burying Bulgaria and executing Bulgarian energy. Our rally is a referendum on the NPP, the telegram also says. One of the big surprises of the rally-concert was that at the beginning and at the end of the set sounded modern hits and rap. Strange that the organizers bet on a similar "deprecated" and "capitalist" musical layout.
