The municipal councilor from the Liberal Union Asim Adem has submitted a proposal for a change in the regulation, according to which the councilors should receive 3 minimum wages as remuneration for their work.
The same amount a few days ago the councilors in Pazardzhik voted and blew up the public opinion in the city. Their colleagues in Velingrad previously voted to receive for a meeting of the Municipal Council 30% of the minimum wage, and for a committee meeting 20% (with each councillor entitled to participate in 2 committees). Mr. Adem's proposal was announced by Chairman N. Kehayov, who hastened to express his disagreement. It is most fair that councillors' remunerations are consistent with the capabilities of municipal budgets, Mr. Kehayov emphasized.
Asim Adem withdrew his offer, and most councillors at this stage would not support it. However, the National Assembly is expected to put some framework in the law, as the precedents have become many and the difference in councillors' remunerations in the different municipalities are large.
