Over 40 points were on the already announced agenda for the upcoming session of the Municipal Council on May 15. Several are the most problematic decisions that municipal councilors have to make.
They will have to choose which of the two companies - "Chepino Autotransport" Ltd. or ET "Peter Manolev" will ride passengers on the line Velingrad - Kostandovo - Dorkovo until a competition is held. Relations between the two carriers are extremely strained, which also raises tensions among individual lobbies in the Municipal Council.
It will be very difficult to cut the knot around the two restituted properties within the boundaries of the Cultural House. Mayor Dr. Dafov wants them expropriated in order to find investors to complete the building. However, the heirs of the Maslarov and Peevi families will find it difficult to give up their land in the very center of the city, for which they can find more advantageous offers than those of the municipality.
The city parliament will also discuss the future of the Cooperative Market, for which the mayor proposes to be given a concession for 35 years. The proposed starting prices for the concession are quite wide: one option is for BGN 1 000 020 and the second one is for BGN 265 020 according to the profit of the Market for 2001 and 2000 respectively. However, councillors will have to think about what will happen to the municipal enterprise "Markets and Markets" and whether the municipal treasury can deprive itself of the guaranteed daily revenues from the Market.
These three problems are severe enough, but there are at least 30 more non-essential items on the agenda. No doubt about it - the month may not be easy for the City Council.
