Local merchants refused hospitality to "Made for You"

19.08.2002 16:41 •
The "Made for You" trade show opened on August 12 in the center of Velingrad caused serious discontent among local traders. Two days earlier, they had started a petition supported by 97 industry representatives. On August 12 in the afternoon their demands were heard by the mayor Dr. Tsvetan Dafov, who received the protesters. Velingrad merchants are against the exhibition, as it undercuts their already weak sales and turnovers during the current resort season. We pay high patents, killer rents, we don't have the right to take goods out on the sidewalks in front of stores, we freeze all winter, and at the peak of the season someone comes to rob the mincemeat, resent shop owners and tenants in the city center.

The position of the municipality is that the exhibition provides an opportunity to diversify the tourist season, to offer more opportunities to the residents and guests of the city, and to the merchants themselves - to establish contacts with producers and distributors.
The exhibition "Made for you", a work of the Sofia-based company "Business Forum" Ltd., generated conflicting impressions in the customers as well. Expectations for quality Bulgarian goods were not one hundred percent justified, it turned out that along with manufacturers of the exhibition have stands and companies importing goods from India, Thailand, Turkey, etc. The stands also occupied a large space from the central street, giving it the familiar appearance of a bitak. In terms of prices, customers looking for the cheap were pleased, and local traders sighed with relief at seeing that their colleagues were not making such dumping. However, doubts remain among the city's businessmen that the Municipality will seek a similar form on Christmas and New Year's Eve.
