The Velingrad socialists will remember the last BSP congress with at least a few facts. For the first time a representative of the local organization was elected a member of the High Council of the party - as we have already reported, this is the famous skier and Olympic medalist Ivan Lebanov. For the first time, the Pazardzhik region will have 8 representatives in the senior party leadership (so far they were 4). In the strongest position of them is the local MP Georgi Pirinski, fourth in number who voted for his candidacy and possible deputy chairman of the BSP. The President of BSP-Velingrad, Toma Pachalov, said that the local socialists were particularly pleased that the congress decided the parliamentary lists to be lined up by the regional councils. The original proposal was that this was a power of the VC. The socialists from Pazardzhik region days before the congress gathered in Bratsigovo and came up with a single position against this proposal. Ultimately (after an hour and a half of debate) the SA will designate the leader of the list and the coalition partners, and the district councils retain the right to sort out the other candidate MPs. It is new that in the BSP there will no longer be an "exclusion" from the party ranks, but a "resignation of trust". The party's municipal council will be able to make a political decision to remove trust, including from municipal councillors. The Socialists are taking this move because a change in the Local Government Act is expected, according to which the bodies that propose and adopt can and recall their representatives. Post-congress news is that the current coordinator of Sofia-city Veladin Bitolski became the head of the cabinet of the leader Sergey Stanishev. Mr. Bitolski has family ties with Velingrad, where his mother and wife are from, so the local socialists are happy that they have a serious lobby. Elena Baeva
