Velingrad car racer Tural Metkov ranked fourth in his A-6 class (up to 1600 cub. cm.) and on the 30th in the general ranking of rally "Bulgaria". The start of Bulgaria's most prestigious car race was given on Friday (July 8th) in front of the Rila Hotel in Borovets. More than 50 cars competed in this year's race, which included 1,100 km., of which 350 raced in 13 stages. The race started well for Metkov-Karajov, who with his Citroen Saxo were moving second to the point where they dropped a left zvoy during the Sestrimo-Belmeken stage. There was a 23-minute lag that led to last place in the class and stage. On Sunday, the two started from the back 43rd position, but their woes continued after a tire burst and a new lag. Eventually Metkov-Karajov got to 4th place in their class and to 30th in the overall standings. The first three places were occupied by Yanakiev, Parashkevov and Shkodrev. Rally "Bulgaria" was also part of the state championship, where Metkov took 3rd position in the standings. By the end, three more starts remain, the most recent being the Hebros Rally, which will be held on 6 and 7 August. Tural Metkov said that the goal ahead of him continues to be winning the country championship despite the failures of the past rally. Our competitor is currently behind with 6.5 from the second Kordev and with 8 from the first Yanakiev. Before Hebros, the front of the Citron is to be repaired. We remind the readers that Metkov is a two-time Republican champion of Bulgaria from 96-97. and last year's Balkans.
