On October 14, the Minister of Labour and Social Policy Hristina Hristova came together with her deputy Ivanka Hristova, Ch. Secretary of the Agency for Social Assistance N. Angelov, People's Representative Milena Milotinova and District Governor Ivan Dimitrov. In the community center in Ledgene they met mostly socially weak people living in the two Roma neighborhoods. To hear Minister Hristova came and candidate mayors Nikolay Deliev and Nejat Kehayov.
Mrs. Hristova reported that unemployment in Velingrad is high and that the number of those supported under various social programs is high. This means that the city has quite serious social difficulties. She acknowledged the accumulated mistakes in the country's management over the past 13 years and pointed out what measures the government is taking to overcome them: increased benefits for single people, more money are received by the families with the lowest incomes, many people have found their place in the programs "From welfare to employment", "Beautiful Bulgaria" and with the help of the microcredit fund. State social services are open to people who need help, said Minister Hristova.
The many questions from the hall singled out a whole list of unsolved social problems. Specific complaints of bureaucratic obstacles to passing through TEMC prevailed, of the loss of certain services used so far for free by people with disabilities, of the fact that sometimes because of pennies above the indicated limits people lose the right to benefits, etc. The attendees also shared with years accumulated and unresolved problems in Asphalt Base and Anesica, heard a lot of criticism of the work of the local Social Assistance Directorate. Mrs. Hristova explained that it is best for people to be able to work and then receive decent pensions, that this will not happen so quickly and without the efforts of the local authorities, yet one by one the problems are overcome.
