On April 21 in the covered swimming pool in Velingrad were held the Zonal students competition in swimming. Unlike last year, when not all teams showed up, there were now 7 teams and 40 representatives of 4 schools. Velingrad Secondary School "Vasil Levski" and "St.Sv. Cyril and Methodius", Secondary School "Dimitar Matevski" from Plovdiv and Primary School "Prof. Ivan Batakliev" from Pazardzhik.
The competitions were for boys and girls, juniors and girls in the following disciplines: 50 and 100 m st. style, breaststroke, back and butterfly, as well as relays of 4 by 50 m st. style and combined swimming. The Velingrad teams once again confirmed their strength by winning first places in three of the age groups. With the boys, the champions became the swimmers of St.St. Cyril and Methodius", in the girls beat the team of OU "Prof. Ivan Batakliev" from Pazardzhik. The first place in the juniors won the swimmers of St.St. Cyril and Methodius" and in the girls the winner is the team of Secondary School "Vasil Levski" after there were no opponents of the competition. Prizes from the RI of the Ministry of Education in Pazardzhik were prepared for the winners. They received bowls, plaques, certificates and balls.
The winners will participate in the Republican Student Swimming Championship, which will be held in early June. Our student swimming teams once again have the chance to become Republican frontrunners. Because of the distinction won last year, in mid-May they will go to the World Student Championship in Spain after receiving a special invitation from the organizers.
