Nearly 1000 ensembles for authentic Bulgarian folklore sang and danced for 4 days in Koprivshtitsa. The green meadows above the town gathered hundreds of fans of Bulgarian folklore from the country and abroad. Among those invited to present their performances at the 8 stages organized specifically for the singing were a total of 840 performers from 42 ensembles from all over the Pazardzhik region. Among them and performers from Velingrad, Dorkovo Kostandovo, Draginovo and Sarnitsa. The Municipality of Velingrad provided funds and transport to our amateurs so that they could join the 40th jubilee council in Koprivshtitsa.
Nice weather and and kind hosts welcomed Velingradians on Friday. With the custom "Gergyovski engagement" was presented the amateur group to the community center in Kamenitsa. The men's folklore group and the women's ensemble at the Chepino Community Center selected folk songs known in the Chepino trough for a jury and spectators for 100 years. The wonderful voices of the performers deservedly were awarded with special diplomas of the Ministry of Culture for achievement in the field of folklore. The performances of the amateurs from the Chepin Chitalishte were recorded and preserved for the generations by the Bulgarian National Radio.
The young musician Stoyan Lazarov made his debut at the 40th Anniversary Koprivshtitsa Fest together with the men's group "Chepintsi". 12-year-old Stoyan accompanied the tarambuka along with the other musicians from the band and answered a few of our questions:
- Why did you choose this particular instrument?
I've been doing music more than two years now. I started learning to play the tarambouk myself, I liked this instrument very much, my parents supported me and my father bought it. In my opinion, it is quite difficult to play the tarambook - there are different ways to hit the instrument to hear a certain sound.
- Where did this love of folk music come from?
- At home everyone is musical - my father, my grandfather and they play, but on the accordion. They are glad that I want to do music and support me. I find time twice a week to go to rehearsals, before I was also in the children's composition "Zdravche-venny", but now I will also come to the rehearsals with the men from the Chepinska group. I love it. - Do your fellow students like this music and how do they view your hobby?
- Not everyone likes it, but there are those who listen to these songs.
- What are your impressions of Koprivshtitsa?
- I liked this fair very much, I actually only one day before our appearance in Koprivshtitsa I was in rehearsals with the men's composition. I was a little worried, but I think I handled it. On stage it's very nice and very quick to get used to I love to sing too, but I think playing is easier. You can't embarrass yourself so much if you're wrong, like if you sing a song. That's why I prefer the tarambuca.
