I'm not waiting for the stream to catch me, I'm looking to overtake

Many people in Velikograd know about the Nadezhda pharmacy, and even more know it as the Monica's or the Hurley pharmacy. During the past week, the flow of people in the pharmacy did not stop, and it did not close its doors despite the complete chaos surrounding the introduction of VAT on drug prices.
Is the trade in medicines a gold mine, how to survive in the fierce competition of this industry, how to develop this business in the small market of Velingrad - with such questions we sought Monica Hurleva. In response, she revealed the different philosophy of the drug trade: business, but combined with medicine and morality: "Against the backdrop of great competition in 1997. as a master pharmacist I decided that it was better to start on my own, with much more difficulties, but to prove my professionalism on my own, and not to be managed by an owner who is not in the industry at all (then there was such an opportunity, but there was a gap between the drug business and the ordinary trade). We started as a young family, absolutely on our own, with help from colleagues and friends. The first year is very difficult, so it is nice to have branch organizations to support in the beginning. The pharmacy we did about 1 year, we took out all the documents and permits and only then we started. I have never regretted: I work my profession, I do not wait for a big profit for 1-2 years, and I want to know that the laws of medicine and drug supply are working. I generally stick to the advice of an economist. I always have a payroll fund that doesn't get touched for loading drugs. From the side, you can see the flow of people in the pharmacy, and many think it's a gold mine. But medicine supply is not just about trade, it's about caring for people. There have been times when we may be at a loss, but the medicine has to be delivered. Now, with these increases, the pharmacy is also at a loss - we work at the old prices, but we don't want it to be to the detriment of people. For a pharmacy to work well, it takes a lot of investment, a lot of money. In addition, you work with people: it is very easy when there is a person against you who wants to understand you. But when one comes wanting to scold from the door, almost nothing can be done. It takes mutual understanding, mistakes happen on our part as well, but always unintentionally. The drug itself requires a great deal of concentration at the moment it is sold. Customer-pharmacy communication is particular - many people come directly to us for advice, which requires particular attention. You should never think about profit alone. The work itself, the long-term development leads to good results. When people see that quality work is done, according to the laws of medicine, the results come. It is another to wait for a salary, it is another to see that success comes. A man leaves with worries, he gets nothing. You have to have confidence that you've started something, that it comes at the cost of a lot of work. Work was done on 15-16, not 2 hours, on New Year's I rested only at night. When I go to do something, I am always for innovation, I am not waiting for the stream to get me, but looking to get ahead - this is the business (Hope is the first to extend the working time because of the lack of night pharmacy in the city and the only one that works with free prescriptions to the Health Insurance Fund - ed.). People have to rely on me to find a cure for them. But a pharmacy is not a warehouse to have it all. If we don't have a drug, we send the client to colleagues - I've always held on to collegiality. I think our clients are grateful that we are acting like pharmacists, not merchants. We have our customers - real, earned customers, people who come to us for the service. There are also people who come initially with distrust, but when they see the way of service, they change it. In business, everyone has to be where they understand. I hope so in 2002. to strengthen the laws in the industry. I am a member of the Pharmaceutical Union, where we all insist on working according to the laws. We have to work as a team, with understanding and mutual assistance, so I thank the colleagues from our collective Maria, Ilka and Albena. To the customers I thank for understanding and wish that in the New Year they do not get sick. We profit from prevention, a healthy person always shops more. Recorded by: Elena Baeva
