It wasn't easy becoming an artist, you had to be a bigger man's man.

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first theatre performance in Ledgene in 1905 is approaching.
Back before September 9, 1944. a Cameroonian great-aunt of Cladova. They hang around the fire in the evening stoners and ask him: "Bai Gyoro, how are you in the bigness in Sofia? Tsarat, pa...?". "Tsarat, trinity-trinity, pa es," the great man replies.
So my veteranship in the theater is something like this: Lilia Zahova, Sevda Kadinova, Mechev, Chipev, and I. (The other known and less known artists-restorers God forgive them and their eternal memory!). It wasn't easy becoming an artist in the 1960s, you had to be a person of some bigger person and that person for me was Dimitar Makaveev. He from the stage he was directing took me to the theater: "Bai Georgi, there is this boy there for the partisan role". Georgi Popov, director then, looks at me through the glasses: "Ah-ha, sit down to listen to the first rehearsal". I was only a novice, at the second rehearsal he gave me to read lines from the role - it seems he liked me for this role, the partisan one.
At the third rehearsal: Petko Chilev rehearsed the lead role (although he was a "laborer", from the Civil Defense in Boshulya they took him to train how to defend the Rosin plant if NATO attacked us).
"Ya there, that Semerdzhievo, to read to Chilev the role!". It's like skiing with Ivan Lebanov! Not only did I read it, but in two days I learned. After 3-4 days Chilev came home - he was banished, "laborer" what do you understand, anti-nat defense this is not theater! Chilev has come, Risteto has gone - again a novice. The next day bye Georgi died - bow!
It started with "Aphrodite's Island", a production by Minka Popova. She led the composition for ten years, Georgi Pashov took over the composition after 1971-72. During this time, new theatrical forces had entered: Nikola Rodin, Ivan Tsartsarov, Stefan Sestrimsky, Atanas Georgiev, Boris Karailiev, Alexei Nechtaylov. During Pashov's time in the 1980s, discoveries by Chilev Tsvetan Kotev - a major theater star, rose.
"Mechev, Chipev and Tsvetan -
When you play with them there's no problem,
They were born for lead roles!"
I believe that the Velingrad audience will not forget the esteemed artists B. Makaveev and L. Zakhova in "Monserrat", B. Karailiev in The Golden Fish, At. Georgiev, H.E. Bozhkov, sisters Yanevi in "Cher Caviar and Lentils", Stella Nacheva in "Ministry", Milosh Arabadjiev and Vaska Vardeva (Semerdzhieva) in the production of "Hamlet in Dolno Tutkavo". Many professional directors also passed through the theatre collective: Petar Kyuchyukov, Boris Arabov, Vasil Spasov, Georgi Balabanov, Plamen Kartaloff, Joseph Venkov. A longer trail left Vesko Kovachev, many years as an artist and not a little as a director. During his time in the theatre collective were infused many young performers who already under the expert direction of Marius Donkin achieved great peaks: Gergana Popova, Rositsa Paunova, Pavel Gaydev, Atanas Gushevilov, Nina Kyosova in "Hotel between two worlds". Tsvetan Kotev received the first prize for a male role at the festival in Kavarna. "Everest" for the collective was in Topolovgrad in 2002, when the play "Heaven without a roof" won all the first places by Rositsa Paunova and Pavel Gaydev, debut made Nushka Acheva and Bogi Veleva. I still have the taste of lamb cheverme and the ruddy red wine drunk on the occasion of the prize. On the eve of the centenary, the collective will delight with a new production under the direction of Marius Donkin. Come to the theater - it's been a hundred years, but art is forever!
Hristo Semerdzhiev
