In the second week of the campaign, independent mayoral candidate Nikola Matrov continued direct dialogue with voters. The meeting on September 2 in the big hall of the municipality lasted nearly 2 hours with many questions, speeches, controversy.
Mr. Matrov again presented his rich professional biography and experience, stressing that he is an independent candidate and will not slave to any group, party and private interests. He reported that at the moment there is a division of interests between the Municipal Council and the Municipal Administration (OA), which stops the development of the municipality of Velingrad. A very deep gap has also been dug between the administration and the citizens, people do not believe in the possibility of OA reflecting their views and interests, and OA does not rely on the citizens. The crisis in the management of the municipality can be overcome, pointed out N. Matrov. The way is the public to show in a definite way at the elections that it wants independent government and that Velingrad should go another way. The candidate mayor outlined three guiding principles that he would follow in the management of the municipality. First of all openness, because in Velingrad we are all witnessing decisions in case of a fait accompli that do not protect the public interest. The OA should make it possible to hear people's approval and comments, have an open relationship, debate and reach consensus. Secondly, it needs to be governed according to the law, not with its circumvention. In 40 years of service I have not bypassed the law and I believe that the municipal employee must either work by law or there is no place in the administration, stated N. Matrov. His third management principle is professionalism. The municipality has suffered for years that parties accommodate people to receive salaries or fill party coffers. On his team, N. Matrov would invite people professionals, regardless of which party they are, but loyal to their post and to the citizens. I will not enter the municipality as an ala that will blow everyone away - I will check who works how, the municipal officials should get rid of their stiff fear and then work like clocks, said the candidate. He relies on his 40 years of experience in large state organizations, through which he can help Velingrad. It is this experience that is his great advantage over other mayoral candidates. At the end of his speech, Mr. Matrov called on the citizens of Velingrad to vote for another way of governing the municipality, and not for the one they have been victims of so far. In support of the candidature of N. Matrov from the hall also spoke people with right-wing beliefs and people with left-wing beliefs. As pros of the candidate they highlighted the upbringing, education, experience, party unencumberedness, his attitude towards people. There were also many questions about the municipality's problems accumulated for years - the looting of the sports base, the concessions for the baths, how the issue with the Roma vote will be solved, as an independent mayor will be able to rely on the regional and central authorities. Mr. Matrov did not fail to answer a single question. And he showed that he did not flirt with the voters: in response to the sound criticism of municipal councilors he recalled "We cut and watered them to put down roots". We have to bear the responsibility as voters for the new MPs, and for entering or not entering the EU.
On the topic of Sarnitsa's separation Mr. Matrov said that everyone best fixes their own home and that if it was for the good of the people, he would encourage such an effort.
In a large part of the speeches there were calls for full mobilization in the vote on September 18, so as not to happen that again voters from the high region to determine the rule of Velingrad. The political moment is crucial for Velingrad, behind the candidate of F. Beev stands Ahmed Dogan and if in Velingrad vote 45%, and in the villages again 70-90%, they will have an advantage, reminded Dr. Alexander Popov.
