On Sunday, April 21, the official start of the herb nursery project, won by the Center for Business and Information with partners the municipalities of Velingrad and Rakitovo, was given. The newly built building on the road to Draginovo was opened personally by the Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Lydia Shuleva, who cut the ribbon together with the Mayor of Velingrad Dr. Tsvetan Dafov. For the Center for Business and Information, the celebration was twofold because the opening purposely coincided with his third birthday.
The project "Virtual Incubator for Cultivation of Herbs and Mutual Assistance in the Community" was won under the program for employment in areas with closed steel and mining industry, under which in the Western Rhodopes region come 2 016 000 euro, provided by the PHARE program of the EU with the mediation of the social ministry. The nursery near Velingrad will provide 7 permanent jobs, 40 temporary and the opportunity to train 100 people who wish to engage in herb cultivation.
Despite the rainy morning, the opening was attended by Mrs. Lydia Shuleva (who at the same time served as Prime Minister because of the Prime Minister's visit to the United States), Deputy Governor Recep Mollaahmed, the mayors of Velingrad Dr. Dafov, of Rakitovo G. Mikhailov, of Sarnitsa Sh. Yakubov, the deputy mayors of Velingrad Sn. Veleva and A. Toporchev, heads of local enterprises and organizations and guests from the country. Greeting to them were the performances of the men's folklore group "Chepino".
In her speech, Ms. Shuleva pointed out that the program under which the money for the nursery is allocated is one of the most successful examples of how unemployment can be overcome. This is a priority of the government he secured for 2002. 4 times more funds in the state budget for its reduction. For the first time in the last 3 years, a slight decline has been felt - in March this year. the number of unemployed has decreased by 35,000 people. This should not reassure us because the unemployment rate continues to be too high, Ms. Shuleva said. Therefore, the government will support enterprising people who are making efforts for their own success.
High praise for the work was given by the head of the Smolyan office of the project, Mr. H. Kushev. He praised the municipalities of Velingrad and Rakitovo for the good partnership with the CBI, thanks to which instead of 5 the nursery is made on 16 acres of given gratuitous municipal land. This is a successful beginning, but a successful ending would have an important psychological effect: it would strengthen people's desire to participate in similar endeavors.
With a short speech, the mayor of Velingrad Dr. Dafov welcomed the guests, emphasized the social effect of the project and thanked the good specialists from the CBI. Then CBI manager Svetlana Papukchieva in the role of hostess showed the guests in the newly built building. The opening ended with a cocktail in the hall, where the actual work on the project will soon begin.
