The expected news from the Deer is now a fact: the Council of Ministers has officially decided to declare Sarnitsa a city. The decision was initialled by the ministers at their regular meeting on 11 September 2003. The mayor of Sarnitsa Shukri Yakubov said that the announcement of a city is something that has been waiting for a long time. The Cernians had no doubts that this would happen, and so they took the news calmly.
The new town numbers 3825 inhabitants and has the required by law infrastructure, administrative and social units, educational institutions, communication network, etc. The more difficult task before Sarnitsa remains the desire to separate from Velingrad into an independent municipality. The procedure has been in motion for years, but governments are changing without ruling on the case.
