After two years of "quiet negotiations" the Municipality of Velingrad has a huge chance to receive financial support from the English Embassy for a project in the field of local energy, announced Deputy Mayor Angel Toporchev. Only two municipalities - Velingrad and Kardzhali, reached the final straight after tough competition between selected 18.
The good news for Velingrad is expected to become a fact early this week. If it is confirmed, it will be possible to proceed to the realization of the long-held dream of using energy mainly of geothermal sources and running waters. The absorption of local energy sources would lead to a sharp reduction in costs and replace the waste of warm waters with their environmentally friendly use.
With a similar project over the years, the municipality applied to numerous institutions, but always the obstacles turned out to be more. The main one is that the mineral waters on the territory of Velingrad are exclusively state property in the face of the Ministry of Environment and Water. "It is high time we were not only proud, but also happy to have them," said Mr. Toporchev, who is optimistic about a future partnership with English capital.
