The Commission for Youth and Sports at the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria under the leadership of Vihra Uteva - Chairman of Rakitovo Municipal Council met on 29 November. The meeting was attended by the People's Representative from NDSV Nonka Matova, the chief expert in Tourism Directorate at the Ministry of Economy Hristomir Hristov and Virginia Dimitrova from the PHARE program. Also present were the mayors of Pazardzhik - Ivan Kolchakov and Rakitovo - Georgi Mihailov, the deputy mayor of Velingrad Angel Toporchev and the head of "Sport and Tourism" Todor Bozev, the executive director of "Sutka 2000" AD Kostadin Mugev, the chairman of the Tourism Council - Velingrad Vasil Kotsev. Mr. Hristov made a comment on the new tourism bill and presented the programs under which PHARE will finance this type of activities from January next year. In front of the guests was presented the project for ski center "Sutka". The main topic was the problems of the municipalities in connection with the financing of sport. It was proposed that at least one of the extraordinary runs of the Sports Totalizator should allocate funds entirely to support sports in municipalities. According to Ms. Matova from 2002. with the establishment of a Ministry of Sports, there will be better prospects for solving the problems of local sports clubs.
