First Armon's Exhibition

18.01.2005 11:58 •
It took only a month for the Armons of Velingrad and Rakitovo to organize and collect over 100 exhibits characterizing their lives and lifestyles in the past. Only one month and the first Armonite exhibition in Chepinsko is already a fact. It is located in the former cafe of the Center for Small Business and Information and was made possible thanks to the Historical Museum in Velingrad.
The beginning of the official opening of the exhibition was given by the 6 year old Nevena Baneva, who performed on the Armenian song "Sarnika", followed by the performances of the group for Armenian songs "Kantiklu nostu" ("Our Song") with artistic director Nikola Yanev-Choli. The Director of the Historical Museum and Chairman of the Committee on Education Snejana Veleva posed the questions: Why is this exhibition organized, who are the Armons, where they come from, what are our common dreams and gave the floor for an answer to the ethnologist Georgi Kumanov. From his words it became clear that their language is the successor of Latin, which is evidence that their roots come from the distant time when the Balkans were part of the Roman Empire. They do not have their own country and are an essential part of Bulgaria, and the most are in our region. Mr. Kumanov defined the exhibition as a first step and announced that an exhibition is forthcoming at the Plovdiv Museum.
The chairman of the Association of Armons in Velingrad Vasil Yanakiev opened the exhibition and expressed hope that with the assistance of the municipality a permanent place will be found for it. He invited his guests, including VRID Atanas Vodev and the deputy mayors Eng.Tanya Goncheva, Arch.Eli Glaveeva and Mr. Karamolla to a glass of wine, a vita banitsa and a sweet pita.
