On June 2, for the first time in Velingrad, the State Aquathlon Championship was held. This less familiar sport resembles the triathlon, but one of the disciplines (cycling) is absent. The aquathlon competition included two runs on 2.5 kilometres of running, separated by 1 kilometre of swimming.
The participants were from clubs in Sofia, Banya, Pleven, Blagoevgrad and Velingrad, divided into four age groups. The competition was held under a very good organization, which was taken care of by the Bulgarian Triathlon Federation chaired by Emil Stoynev, the Municipality of Velingrad and the Belmeken Swimming Club. It can only be regretted that there was almost no audience for this attractive race on the Central Beach. At exactly 12 o'clock, when the sirens sounded for Botev Day, the contestants stopped to pay tribute to the fighters on the loose.
Most of the medals at the state aquatlon championship went to Banya and Sofia, where there are stable triathlon schools. The champions are: Ivan Ivanov, Banya - boys, Iva Karaivanova, Sofia - girls, Vladimir Genov, Banya - junior, Karina Dragolova, Sofia - junior, Yonko Kamburov, Banya - youth, Virginia Duncheva, Sofia - women and Atanas Zlatkov from Sofia in men.
The hosts from PK Belmeken with coach Velcho Kleshkov performed well. In the girls st. Age his graduates Ana Zahova and Desi Glaveeva took first and second place respectively, and in adolescents st. age the gold medal won Yasen Yankov. The silver medal of Ventsislava Lekina in girls ml. Kostadin Milev's age and bronze distinction in boys.
All participants received jerseys from the stable sponsor "Indesit" and the winners - cash prizes and medals awarded by the head of the Sports and Tourism Department in the municipality Todor Bozev. On July 1, Velingrad will again gather the elite of triathlonists, who have been organizing their biggest competition of the year on our pool for years.
