Swimmers will not forget Palma de Mallorca

24.05.2005 10:05 •
On May 17, the teams of SOU "St. Sv. Cyril and Methodius" and SOU "V. Levski” returned from Palma de Mallorca, where they participated in the World School Swimming Cup. After winning the national championships for two consecutive years, the Velingradians were given the right to represent Bulgaria at the prestigious competition in the famous Spanish resort. In the final standings, the boys are in 14th and the girls in 15th place. Swimmers from 19 nations participated, and the high level of the competition is evidenced by the fact that the winners of the prizes in the individual disciplines have shown better results than those of the republican champions in Bulgaria.
Our participants returned from Palma de Mallorca with magnificent memories not only of the race, but also of the whole welcome, the stay in the three-star hotel, the many accompanying entertainments and the new friendships created. This was a great reward for the swimmers, as they deserve, but neither the schools nor the parents could offer them without the financial assistance from the Ministry of Sport and from the municipality of Velingrad, said the director of SOU "St. Cyril and Methodius" Maria Polezhanska.
To the unforgettable stay in Palma de Mallorca was added the emotion to travel on the plane together with the Secretary General of the Interior Boyko Borisov. Learning that this was the national team for the World School Swimming Cup, the general took a picture with our swimmers and signed autographs.
