31.03.2002 20:17 •
The members of SBU and NUS at CITUB from schools and kindergartens in the municipality of Velingrad joined the national protest of teachers, announced on March 27, 2002. On this National Day of Protest, held under the slogan "Against cuts in secondary education", workers in schools, kindergartens and service units protested against 10% administrative cuts, irregular payment of wages and low wage rates in education in the face of rising inflation. In their protest, teachers have four main demands:
1. Cuts in secondary education should only be made for demographic reasons.
2. Regular payment of wages and social payments.
3. Updating of the budgets guaranteeing the financial security and material support of the educational institutions until the end of 2002. and with a 2003 budget.
4. Increase the amount of wages in education by 20 per cent. If satisfactory results are not achieved through normal social dialogue, CITUB is ready to participate in all forms of trade union protest, including an effective strike.
The ObCS of SBU in Velingrad prepared its members for the Day of Protest by introducing the teachers to the four main demands. They were placed in schools and kindergartens in prominent places. The public was also made aware of the main purpose of the protest: the state to ensure the implementation of a normal educational process.
