The day of Velingrad this year fell between two quarter-final matches of the FIFA World Cup and this felt - the audience in the central square was definitely looser. The representative brass orchestra and cheerleading squad gave the start of the celebration, which on 29 June opened the Festival of Culture, and on the evening of 30 June together with their colleagues from Lovech made a big parade and concert in the central square. The festive concert on July 1 was also attended by the City Choir, and from the grandstand the residents and guests of the resort were welcomed by Mayor St. Dulev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Policy in Disasters and Accidents Emel Etem and the Head of Delegation from the Chinese city of Yunfu Mr. Lai Bin. Among the official guests were also the Regional Governor Angel Cholakov, the MP from DPS Fidel Beev, the Deputy Minister of MDPBA Angel Chakarov, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Nedzhat Kehayov. A special written greeting on the occasion of the holiday of Velingrad was sent by President Georgi Parvanov, pointing out that with the development of the now suspended Sutka project, the resort will also be developed. Mrs. Etem also promised to help Velingrad, taking into account that there are many problems in the municipality that await solutions from its ministry. For the good mood of the audience danced the young graduates of CDG "Joy" and sports couples from KST "Impulse". For the first time as part of the festive program, a retrospective of the management of the mayors of Velingrad has been made since 1990. The accent of the concert was the performances of the ensemble of the Bulgarian Army. Part of its program the ensemble showed during the concert on the occasion of 50 years of creative activity of Nikolay Gyaurov at the Military Club in Sofia. Now the army staff offered a much more extended and updated version of their program than patriotic and folk songs and dances. For the audience on the square, the festive evening ended with a fireworks display, and for the officials with a cocktail at the Central restaurant.
