Deputy Mayor Angel Toporchev presented at a working meeting at the Embassy of Belarus a project to cover the municipal market in Velingrad. The meeting was held on November 14 with the participation of the advisor at the embassy Vladimir Gridyushik and the author of the project Eng. Penelov from Sofia. The project "Covered Market Velingrad" according to preliminary calculations amounts to 204 thousand German marks and provides over 600 sq.m. covered area. The embassy presented all the documentation on the project with the idea of covering the market to be taken over by the metal cutting plant in the Belarusian city of Malodechno, with which Velingrad is twinned. The plant in question is one of the leaders in its industry, as evidenced by the Ostankino TV towers in Warsaw, the stadiums of Dynamo Minsk and Spartak Moscow and many more similar facilities. Mr. Toporchev has indicated several options with which the Municipality of Velingrad can pay for the eventual construction of the covered market. One of them is for the municipality to provide a property or land close in value for the construction of a new tourist and balneological center for children and citizens from Belorus. Such a "barter" will have to obtain the consent of the Municipal Council as well. Funds may be sought from European pre-accession funds. There is also the idea of giving the market a concession or creating a joint-stock company in which even small owners of commercial sites can participate and invest. This week the project will be presented in Malodechno, and whether the Belarusian plant will show interest is a matter of the future. Elena Baeva
