With a second vote Stoyan Dulev became interim mayor

05.07.2004 22:28 •
The municipal councilors, after a short extraordinary meeting on June 28, elected as interim mayor of Velingrad the current deputy of the suspended Fidel Beev - Stoyan Dulev.
Doubts that a revote of an already rejected candidate could lead to torts were voiced by advisers from the BSD, NDSV and BZNS-People's Union. We recall that on June 24 Mr. Dulev's candidacy was rejected. On June 28, however, the proposal for Stoyan Dulev to take over the mayoral duties was passed by 17 votes to 10 abstentions. This time, Dulev's candidacy was supported by the BZNS councillors, who had voted against him 4 days earlier. BSP, DPS and the Green Party also stood behind Mr Dulev's candidacy. The councillors Tsvetan Dafov from the UDF and Stefan Asenov from the Roma party were absent from the meeting of the local parliament for no good reasons. In the framework of both meetings and between them, informal talks and consultations were held on the subject between the political forces, which led to this unsurprising outcome for anyone.
The new interim mayor of the municipality of Velingrad officially took office after taking the oath of office. However, the decision can also be appealed, as the Municipal Council has not cancelled the previous procedure in which St. Dulev was rejected.
