At the extraordinary session of the Municipal Council on December 30 Boryana Petricheva was sworn in as a municipal councilor. She entered the local parliament from the list of GERB after Atanas Damov applied for his powers as a councillor to be terminated early.
On behalf of the citizens' committee "Let's Work for Velingrad" Sofia Klyuchkova presented New Year's gifts to the President of the Municipal Council M. Jambaz and Mayor Eve. Lebanov. Mr. Jambaz received a personal diary with a wish in it to reflect his ties to the mayor in 2009. For Mr. Lebanov there was a large diary for meetings in which to record tasks, deadlines and responsible persons. The initiative committee also issued an opinion on the one-year work of the local parliament, which you read on p. 5.

SNOW The first serious snowfall of this winter in Velingrad began on January 2. In the city, street cleaning is done by the municipal company Stroycom, which has made sure that the main thoroughfares are passable in winter conditions.

CLOTHING In 2009. employees of the Municipal Administration and its units will receive one minimum wage for workwear. The decision was adopted on 30 December 2008.

At the beginning of the new year the Traffic Police strengthened its control for the conclusion of the compulsory insurance "Civil Liability" and for the vignette stickers. Drivers should be aware that the annual vignettes are no longer in force until 31 January 2009, and their term expired as early as 31 December 2008.
A fire broke out in a house in Kamenica on New Year's Eve. While the owners were visiting neighbors, much of the roof structure burned down.
