BABY NEW YEAR'S NIGHT AND THE FIRST DAY OF 2008 were particularly tense in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the municipal hospital in Velingrad. A record was set: six babies were born, the first of them being a boy, which means that the year will be "male". Unfortunately, none of the newborn babies managed to enter the "baby of 2008" ranking, but more importantly, they are healthy and lucky!

The 160th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian poet and revolutionary was celebrated in front of the monument of Hristo Botev in the center of Velingrad on January 6. The celebration was short, without speeches and music and in the presence of few people. Students presented a wreath on behalf of the Municipal Administration, which was represented by the deputy mayors Angel Daskalov and Georgi Yanchev. A bouquet of flowers in front of the Botev monument was also laid on behalf of ONC "Otets Paisiy".

The municipality started the enrollment of children who will participate in the solemn ritual "Naming" of Babinden. Since the holiday January 21 this year falls on Monday, enrollment will be until January 18, Friday in room 4 on the first floor of the old municipality building.

SCHOOLS Because of the cold, the Ministry of Education has ordered and the Regional Inspectorate will check the readiness of educational institutions for classes after the vacation. It will check the temperatures in the classrooms, the snow-cleaning of the areas around the buildings, the availability of enough fuel for heating.

The police officers in Velingrad conducted a raid and seized over 44,400 firecrackers from traders who on New Year's Eve sold the dangerous goods without holding a license and permits for it. Most of the firecrackers are from a downtown store.
