FIRST SPRING Velingrad welcomed the first spring with sledges and snowballs. Wondering who is stronger - global warming or Baba Marta?!
In all likelihood Kamen Vodenicharov will be the host of the ceremony on July 4, when Velingrad will receive the title of "SPA capital of the Balkans". During the week, he came and held talks with members of the initiative committee.



KRIZA Mayor Ivan Lebanov participated in the annual meeting of the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria on March 17. Besides the adoption of the 2008 accounts and the 2009 budget, the mayors discussed the most important topic - how municipalities should maintain financial stability in the context of an economic crisis.

The election coalition between the UDF and the DSB announced that in 17 constituencies the lists for candidate-deputies will be led by representatives of the UDF, and in 14 the leaders will be from the DSB. At a press conference in Pazardzhik, MP Ekaterina Mihaylova announced that in our constituency the leader will be Daniel Mitov - Vice-President of the DSB, who worked as Executive Director of the Democracy Foundation.

Belogradchik In a letter to the mayor of Velingrad, Yves. Lebanov the mayor of Belogradchik Em. Tsankov thanked for the active involvement of the citizens of Velingrad in the campaign for the selection of the new seven wonders of the world. The Municipality of Velingrad was one of the first to support the idea of voting in favor of the Bulgarian candidacy. Currently, the Belogradchik Rocks phenomenon is second in its category, but voting on the Internet!

The Municipality of Rakitovo started the construction of a complex for social services for elderly people. A public procurement has already been announced for the construction of the new two-storey building with an estimated value of BGN 375,000 excluding VAT.

On March 26, the Mayor of Sarnitsa M. Karamolla at a solemn ceremony in the capital will receive the Golden Seal award. It is awarded to unique European settlements for their cultural heritage and natural resources.

THEATRE Actress Iskra Radeva will visit again on the Velingrad stage, but this time also as a director. On March 24 in the community center "Father Paisii" we will see the play "Crazies on Saturday Night" by M. Mitoa featuring Iskra Radeva, Veselin Rankov, Anton Radichev and Milena Atanasova.

POLITICS The diplomas of the graduates of this spring "School for Politicians" were awarded at the Palace Hotel on March 22. It is organized by Dimi Panitza's Free and Democratic Bulgaria Foundation in cooperation with Open Society, New Bulgarian University and Political Academy for Central and Southeastern Europe with the idea to build young political and civic leaders. Participants made a donation to the Home for Children Deprived of Parental Care together with Junior Achievement.
The Director of the Regional Inspectorate of the Ministry of Education, Boyka Marinska, sent a letter of thanks to the municipal leadership and the Vasil Levski Secondary School for the excellent organization and hosting of the National Physics Competition, which was held in Velingrad.
