Firefighters and forest officials saved from burning 50 acres of coniferous forest in the area of Chamova mound near Velingrad. On August 26, around 2 pm, a fire occurred in the forest near an equestrian base. Firefighters extinguished the young pine forest for several hours, but were able to stop the spread of the element. The causes of the blaze are in the process of being elucidated.



On August 25, Eco Velingrad Association started the project for reconstruction and ennoblement of the parks in Velingrad. The beginning was laid in the park of Kleptuza with dismantling of the pavement and preparation for laying cables and building new alleys. The project provides for rehabilitation of a total of 95 000 sq.m of green areas and 3 900 sq.m of pedestrian directions and is worth a total of 7.4 million leva.

For financial reasons, this year for the celebration of the Unification, the municipality has not provided for concerts and other appearances in the program. On Monday, September 6, the flags of Bulgaria and the EU will be hoisted in front of the Municipal Administration building and the national anthem will sound.

Some of the employees in the municipality of Velingrad are already on a 4-hour working day. This is one way to make savings in order to "tie" the budget.

ASSISTANCES In the Social Assistance Directorate, applications for aid for first graders continue. Out of a total of 321 applications in Pazardzhik Region 119 are in the municipality of Velingrad. The aid amounts to 150 leva, and applications will be accepted until September 30. Applications for energy aid are also being raised, as again Velingrad has the highest number of applicants - 1386, and second in the district is Rakitovo with 753 applications submitted so far.

Prosecutor General Boris Velchev was spotted during the past week in Velingrad. Together with his family, he walked around the center, escaping the summer heat with ice cream.

Sarnitsa The town of Sarnitsa is getting ready to celebrate on September 9. Two years ago. The idea was born in August to organize local festivals of culture, but now in the conditions of crisis the celebrations will be shorter and will coincide with Bayryama.

ETERA Historical Museum - Velingrad will participate in this year's edition of the International Fair of Folk Crafts in the Etara Outdoor Ethnographic Complex. From 3 to 6 September at its stand, the museum will advertise Velingrad as a place for cultural tourism.
