A training apiary will be built in Velingrad, in which the first lessons in beekeeping will be given to students from local schools. The idea for the creation of such an apiary is of the municipal Information Center for Small and Medium Business (ICSB), the Regional Society for Protection of the Rights of the Child and the Buket Beekeeping Society - Velingrad. Their desire is thus to preserve the traditions of beekeeping in our region and for young people to take the baton for its development from the hands of established master beekeepers. And such knowledgeable and capable beekeepers in Velingrad there are many, headed by the always enthusiastic chairman of the company "Buket" Nikola Kolev. The realization of the idea became possible after winning a project on which a funding organization will be the "Eco Community" Foundation under the "Local Eco Initiatives" program. The Foundation approved for the second time an initiative of ICICB, after it also supported the familiar to the readers of the newspaper. "Tempo" project for marking the intersection of meridian and parallel in the vicinity of Velingrad. The training apiary will most likely be built near Velyova banya. Work on the implementation of the project will take place within 6 months from December this year until the summer of the next. The allocated amount is about 6000 leva. In addition to building the apiary, special equipment for young beekeepers will be purchased, a number of theoretical and practical beekeeping classes will be held, and visits to two traditional apiaries in the Shiblyovtsi locality and the Agricultural University of Plovdiv are planned. Experienced beekeepers from Velingrad will also get involved in the work on the project, and new technologies in beekeeping will be presented for them.
After the establishment of the study apiary, visits to schoolchildren will be constantly organized in it, and this will increase interest in the ancient craft of beekeeping. Pchelin will also be a tourist attraction for the guests of the resort, the authors of the good idea hope.
