The district governor announced that he had the option of appointing a caretaker mayor
The Pazardzhik District Court announced its decision in the litigation between the Municipal Council - Velingrad and the Regional Government for the removal of the temporary mayor Stoyan Dulev. The case arose in August, when 17 municipal councillors voted a decision to overthrow Mr. Dulev, and the then acting regional governor Yumer Hamza suspended it on the grounds that 2/3 of the councillors' votes were needed - that is, 20, not 17 votes. The court's decision confirmed the position of the Regional Government and left Stoyan Dulev to the post of interim mayor of the municipality. This decision can be appealed within 14 days to YOU. The case of the other contested decision by which the councillors elected to the mayoral post Ivan Lebanov will be decided later, as it was left "hanging" until the decision on St. Dulev.
On Monday, during his visit to Velingrad, the regional governor Ivan Dimitrov said that the court decision confirms that in the particular case the district government acted lawfully. Mr. Dimitrov also said: "If the Court of Auditors and the authorities of State Financial Control find violations and we receive recommendations from them plus a proposal from the Municipal Council, we may appoint a caretaker mayor of the municipality of Velingrad until elections are held." He recommended unanimity among all councillors and reasonable demands and decisions.
